Primary Eye Care
Dr. Jon Franklin is a native of Wilson county and a cum laude graduate of Cumberland University (Class of 1989) and the Southern College of Optometry (Class of 1993). Dr. Franklin has practiced optometry in Mount Juliet since graduation from SCO in 1993. He opened Franklin Family Eye Care in 1994 before forming Franklin-Altman Eye Care, PLLC with Dr. Brad Altman in 2005.
An avid sports fan, Dr. Franklin has interest in sports vision and works with local athletic teams to perform vision screenings and fit patients with sports-specific vision enhancements. Dr. Franklin played baseball and basketball for the local Lebanon Blue Devils and baseball for Cumberland University from 1985-89. He received the CU Lindsey Donnell award for academics and athletic excellence and the Most Valuable Player award in 1988. He played on the first Cumberland University World Series team in 1988 and was inducted into the Cumberland University Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. Dr. Franklin is a 1993 recipient of the Nova award for excellence in academics at the Southern College of Optometry.
Dr. Franklin married Karen Oldham of Dixon Springs in 1990. They have two children, Erin (born in 1997) and Andrew (born in 1999). He is the son of Jerry and Thersa Franklin of Lebanon, Tennessee. In his spare time Dr. Franklin enjoys coaching his children’s athletic teams, camping, golfing, reading and watching sporting events.
He is also an active member of the local Lions Club whose focus is providing vision care for individuals without the financial means to do so themselves. Dr. Franklin has also served as the co-coordinator of the “Opening Eyes” program for Special Olympics athletes in Tennessee for over 10 years.
An active member of the Tennessee Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association and the West Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Franklin is committed to providing excellent eye care for all his patients.
Ocular Disease, Cornea & Contact Lens
Dr. Brad A. Altman grew up in Searcy, AR where he graduated high school at Harding Academy. He was a cum laude graduate of Harding University, and obtained his doctor of optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry.
He completed Fellowship training at the VitreoRetinal Foundation, specializing in medical management of eye disorders, including glaucoma, dry-eyes and pre- and post-operative care and neuro-optometry.
Dr. Altman has been practicing optometry in Tennessee since 1994 and joined Franklin-Altman Family Eye Care in 2005. An accomplished clinician, Dr. Altman is one of the area’s foremost cornea and contact lens optometrists. He has built his reputation through a knowledgeable, personalized and caring approach to patient management.
He is a Fellow of the Tennessee Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association, Tennessee Optometric Association, Middle Tennessee Optometric Society, and the Contact Lens & Cornea Section of the A.O.A.
He has been published in his field, including a chapter in the textbook, “Optometry Clinics”. In 2001 Dr. Altman was honored by his peers by selecting him the Tennessee Optometric Association’s “Young Optometrist of the Year”. He also has been awarded the TOA’s Presidential Citation.
Dr. Altman enjoys evaluating infants for the InfantSee Program and has been the Clinical Director for the Special Olympics Opening Eyes since 2002. In his free time Dr. Altman enjoys coaching his children in sports and fishing and camping with his family.
